Digital Desk: National People's Party (NPP) chief Conrad Sangma took oath as Meghalaya's chief minister for the second consecutive term in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong today. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda were also present.

Meghalaya governor Phagu Chauhan administered the oath to the 12-member council of ministers, which included Prestone Tynsong of the NPP and Alexander Laloo Hek of the BJP. Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar were sworn in as deputy chief ministers.

Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar took their oaths as Meghalaya's deputy chief ministers. Alexander Laloo Hek, Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh, Paul Lyngdoh, and Comingone Ymbon were sworn in as ministers in the new NPP-led government in Meghalaya.

In total, eight MLAs from the National People's Party (NPP), two from the UDP, and one each from the BJP and the HSPDP were sworn in as ministers in Sangma's cabinet at Raj Bhavan.

A day ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Conrad Sangma, the United Democratic Party (UDP) and People's Democratic Front (PDF) have extended their support to the National People's Party (NPP) to form government in the state. Metbah Lyngdoh, the president of the UDP, confirmed the news. "We (UDP and PDF) have extended our support to NPP," Lyngdoh said. The NPP now has 45 members after receiving support from the UDF and the PDF.

The NPP turned out to be the largest party in Meghalaya, gaining 26 of the 59 seats. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won only two seats. The NPP formed a post-election alliance with the BJP.

On Friday, Sangma submitted his resignation as Meghalaya's chief minister to governor Phagu Chauhan and then staked his claim to form the state's new government.
