Digital Desk: Ananta Rai, the self-proclaimed king of the Koch Rajbongshi family, stated on Wednesday that Cooch Behar will become a separate union territory ahead of the upcoming elections.
Ananta Rai, who was in Cooch Behar Rajbari, claimed that the government and the opposition were in conversation. "We will shortly see results. However, it has been heard that Cooch Behar would split off into its own union territory prior to the Lok Sabha polls," asserted Rai.
"I've already discussed this with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Several Assam districts will also be included in Cooch Behar after it is recognized as a separate Union Territory," Rai added.
The identified districts are Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Chirang, and North Salmara.
Rai claimed that the Union Government will hold discussions with the Assam Government about forming a separate union territory.
The self-declared king claimed that the West Bengal government had already explained its stand to the President.
When asked about the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation's (KLO) position on their goal of liberating Kamatapur from India, Ananta Rai avoided commenting on their ideas and urged KLO cadres to return to the mainstream.
