Digital Desk: India continues to records a sharp spike in Covid-19 positive cases. According to the latest health ministry data, India has recorded 2.58 lakh new positive cases in the last 24 hours. The rise in this number of Covid-19 positive cases shows a rise in positivity rate. The positivity rate rises from 16.28% to 19.65%.  The new Omicron variant is creating a threat among the citizens. A total of 8,209 cases of the Omicron variant have been identified across 29 states and union territories, out of which 3,109 have recovered or relocated. In major states like Maharashtra, New Delhi and so on, the caseload of positive numbers is much higher. Maharashtra registered the highest 1,738 cases of the Omicron variant. These Omicron numbers were followed by West Bengal 1,672, Rajasthan 1,276, Delhi 549, Karnataka 548 and Kerala 536 cases. Moreover, the death tally has stretched to 4,86,451 with 385 daily fatalities. According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was registered at 19.65 %, while the weekly positivity rate stood at 14.41 %. In addition, the number of individuals who have recovered from the infection streamed to 3,52,37,461. On the other hand, India is trying to provide double doses of Covid-19 vaccination to every individual. However, death rates are not slowing down. India has counted overall 4,86,451 deaths due to the infection. The health ministry also stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities. "Our figures are being moderated with the Indian Council of Medical Research," the ministry stated. India is under the threat of third Covid-19 with its new Omicron variant. However, the country is trying its best to provide complete vaccination for all its citizens. In addition, the Indian government has also issued essential curbs for limiting the surge of the Covid-19 infection.
