Digital Desk: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday shared data showing the state's decreasing crime rate over the past five years.

Optimistic and elated at the decreasing trend of serious crimes such as murder, rape, and dacoity, CM Sarma wrote, "Our commitment to making Assam a crime-free State is moving positively in the right direction. Sharing an update on the decreasing trend of all major kind of crimes recorded in the State".

Notably, CM Sarma's statistics indicate a decline in murder cases from 1235 in 2019 to 686 in 2023. Although there were 656 rape cases reported in the state in 2023 as compared to 1952 cases in 2019. Dacoity cases have also drastically decreased, from 198 cases in 2019 to only 55 cases in 2023.

A more detailed review of the statistics reveals that, during the previous five years, there has been a significant decline in the number of rape cases, with the highest numbers recorded in 2019 and 2021.

CM Sarma has attributed Assam's declining crime rate to active police patrolling, improved crime management effectiveness, the use of forensics, increased community-police coordination, and the state government's strong support and cooperation in developing strict policies to combat crime.
