Biren Singh's decision to cancel the 2008 Suspension of Operations agreement last month is one of the major flashpoints. The deal called for a halt to operations against Kuki insurgent groups.

Digital Desk: The Bharatiya Janata Party in Manipur may be in trouble, as more than a dozen legislators from the state have arrived in Delhi to oppose chief minister N Biren Singh. Legislators have called for a change of guard in the state.

Several of the 12 MLAs camping in Delhi are from the Kuki community, a clan from the state's hill area that has previously contended with the previous government under Ibobi Singh on a number of issues. On the condition of anonymity, one of the MLAs in Delhi told DH that they joined the BJP with the promise of development in their region, but that has yet to happen.

"Some of our concerns contribute to the continuation of the situation, and despite our interventions, no action has been taken," the MLA stated.  Manipur MLA Read Thokchom Radheshyam resigns as Chief Minister's advisor. Biren Singh's decision to cancel the 2008 Suspension of Operations agreement last month is one of the major flashpoints. The deal called for a halt to operations against Kuki insurgent groups.

A top BJP leader stated that national leaders will meet with the group to iron out the differences, but that the party will not undergo a change of guard.

The news follows the resignations of Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam Singh as the chief minister's political advisor and Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam as chairman of the Tourism Corporation of Manipur.

Singh, a decorated cop, was removed from the state Cabinet in 2020.

Shyam claimed in his letter that despite being nominated to the position in December, he has yet to be assigned a job. "I am resigning from the post of chairman of Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited because I have not been assigned any responsibility as chairman," he said.
