Digital Desk: A Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been suspended following serious allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of power against a young woman from Northeast India. The disturbing incident took place on a Saturday,13th September , in the Ashram Maharani Bagh area of Delhi.
ASI Virandar Kumar, an officer from the Ashram Police Station, conducted an authorized search at a shop nearby Ashram Metro Station at around 10 a.m. without any warrant or any justifiable reason. According to eyewitnesses, in the process of the search of illegal alcohol, no contraband was found. Shockingly, ASI Kumar allegedly grabbed the victim’s face and inappropriately touched her private parts, despite her protests.
An Instagram user, yarsho_naga_forever_21, shared pictures of the accused along with a post stating: “Today around 10 a.m. at Ashram Maharani Bagh, this ASI harassed and molested a Northeast girl while she was at a shop. He conducted the search without a warrant. Even after she told him not to search illegally, he continued, found nothing, and then smiled, grabbed her face, and molested her, leaving her deeply traumatised.”
The incident has triggered massive outrage on social media, with netizens demanding strict action against the accused officer. Formal complaints have been made by the family of the victim, student union representatives and community people . In response, senior police officials, including the Station House Officer and Superintendent, have suspended ASI Kumar pending a thorough investigation.
Despite the suspension, protesters are calling for the complete termination of ASI Kumar’s service and his prosecution under the Indian Penal Code’s sections relating to molestation and abuse of authority. The community leaders will hold a meeting with the police officials further on Monday to assure that comprehensive legal action is taken.
At this point, the Delhi Police has not made any official comment on the allegations brought against ASI Virandar Kumar. The case continues to attract attention as demands for justice grow louder.
