Most private schools in Delhi were closed until January 8 and were set to reopen tomorrow.

Digital Desk: Due to the frigid weather, the Delhi government has urged all private schools to remain closed until January 15. The Directorate of Education issued the warning on a day when Delhi registered the lowest temperature of 1.9 degrees Celsius.

"In continuation to the DOE's (Directorate of Education) earlier circular, all private schools in Delhi are advised to remain closed till January 15, 2023, as a result of the cold wave prevailing in Delhi," the circular stated.

Most private schools in Delhi were closed until January 8 and were set to reopen tomorrow.

Delhi's government schools will also be closed until January 15.

Today's temperature in Delhi was 1.9 degrees Celsius, the second-lowest in the last ten years. The temperature was measured at the Safdarjung meteorological station this morning. The only colder morning in the capital in the last ten years occurred on January 1, 2021, when the temperature dropped to 1.1 degrees Celsius.

The cold weather, along with dense fog, has hampered road, rail, and air traffic activity. The visibility near the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport was 50 metres at 5.30 a.m. today.

The Indian Meteorological Department has advised people to limit their outside activity since it could result in frostbite.
