Digital Desk: In a harrowing incident in Delhi, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl faced a traumatic attack by a pit bull in the Uttarakhand Colony of Delhi's Burari area on January 2.
The toddler was hospitalized for 17 days with broken legs in 3 different places and had to get almost 18 stitches.
The entire attack was captured on CCTV, showing seven to eight people had struggled to rescue the girl from the jaws of the aggressive pit bull.
Despite producing the CCTV footage, the girl's family claimed that they had approached the Burari Police Station to file a case but the police allegedly pressured the girl's family to seek compromise instead of taking action against the pit bull’s owner.
The girl's grandfather alleged that no action had been taken against the owner of the pit bull. "The terror of street dogs is so great in the colony that people are afraid to even step out of their houses," he said, adding that three people from the same family were bitten by dogs.
The family also highlighted that keeping pit bulls as pets is banned in India as they are considered a "dangerous" breed.
Additionally, In December last year, the central government informed the Delhi High Court that a decision on prohibiting licenses for keeping “dangerous” dog breeds as pets would be made within three months.
