Digital Desk: A tsunami of Coronavirus cases from both Omicron and Delta strains will drive the health system to collapse, said (World Health Organization) WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Earlier, WHO Chief Tedros had warned that the new covid variant Omicron posed a severe threat and might significantly impact the global health system.

During a press conference, WHO chief Tedros said, “I’m worried that Omicron, which is more transmissible and circulates at the same pace as Delta variant, will cause a wave of cases. This will continue to put enormous strain on healthcare professionals and healthcare systems on the verge of collapsing.”

According to the WHO, the new Covid-19 versions of Delta and Omicron are the reasons for the worldwide rise in hospitalizations and fatalities.

The WHO director also stated that many health professionals are becoming ill due to Coronavirus, one of the causes of the strain on health systems.

Notably, his week record-breaking cases of covid-19 have been reported from all over the world. According to the AFP news agency, based on a national database, the highly transmissible variation Omicron is causing many illnesses in several nations, with 37 per cent more cases reported internationally between December 22 and 28 than the previous week.
