The DGCA has taken stern punishment against Air India for mishandling Shankar Mishra's peeing incident on the flight...

Digital Desk: The incident of passenger misconduct on the AI-102 aircraft from New York to New Delhi on November 26, 2022, was brought to the attention of the DGCA on January 4, 2023. A male passenger allegedly discharged himself on a female passenger in a disruptive manner.

The DGCA issued Show Cause notices to M/s Air India's Accountable Manager, M/s Air India's Director of In-Flight Services, and all of the flight's pilots and cabin crew members, asking them to explain why enforcement action should not be taken against them for failing to meet their regulatory obligations.

M/s Air India's written response and the employees involved were scrutinised. As a result, the following enforcement actions were taken in the current case:

1. M/s Air India has been fined Rs 30,00,000/- (Rupees Thirty Lakh only) for violating applicable DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements.

2. Suspension of the Pilot-In-license Command's for three months (03 months) for failing to fulfil his duties in accordance with Rule 141 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937 and applicable DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements.

3. A financial penalty of Rs 3,00,000/- (Rupees Three Lakh only) has been imposed on M/s Air India's Director-in-Flight Services for failing to fulfil her duties in accordance with applicable DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements.

Furthermore, Shankar Mishra has been barred from flying for four months after being accused of urinating on a female co-passenger on a trip in November of last year.

In an unexpected turn of events, Mishra has denied 'peeing' on the woman and stated that she 'peed' on herself. On Friday, his lawyer argued in a Delhi court that the woman was a Kathak dancer who suffered from "incontinence," or a lack of voluntary control over urinating.
