Digital Desk: The season opener of IPL 2023 between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings had the second-lowest TV viewership in the previous six seasons, despite record-breaking digital viewership, says a report.

Following the data collected, the official broadcaster of the tournament, Star Sports, reported a TVR of 7.29 for the opening match, a significant decrease from the 2021 edition (8.25) and 2020 edition (8.25). (10.36).

The first-game engagement rate was 33%, the second lowest in the previous six seasons, and the BARC data reflected this decline, with the curtain raiser reported at 22%, down from 23.1 percent the previous year.

Based on an announcement, Jio Cinema, IPL 2023's official digital streaming partner, exceeded Disney+ Hotstar's digital audience stats from last year by the first week of the tournament.

"JioCinema's TATA IPL debut was a spectacular success, with record-breaking opening day statistics. On Day 1, the total match viewing on JioCinema surpassed 50 crores "a statement stated.

"JioCinema received over 2.5 crore downloads, setting a record for the most installed app in a single day. Furthermore, almost 6 crore unique viewers tuned in for the GT vs CSK match, which had a peak concurrency of more than 1.6 crores on the platform." stated according to the latest collected data.
