Guwahati: Former Miss India finalist Rajkanya Baruah managed to get bail within 24 hours of the drunk driving case. Baruah injured as many as eight workers of the PWD (Public Works Department) in a road accident in Guwahati, Assam.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a probe against the investigating officer for his negligence in reviewing the case and granting bail to the accused. Following the order, Dispur police authorities stated that they had already issued a summon order to Baruah.
However, Baruah has not yet arrived at the police station for the questioning hours. Therefore, Dispur police authorities have stated that they are likely to issue a second order if she fails to reach the police station.

Baruah is presently admitted to Guwahati Neurological Research Centre (GNRC) hospital, Guwahati. However, sources stated that Baruah had warned the hospital management not to speak anything about her condition and related matter to the media. Therefore, the management has backed off from providing any related information.
Notably, one of the wounded workers was a former surrendered ULFA member. The former ULFA member surrendered in 1992. The injured workers called the government for monetary relief and demanded a proper inquiry against the accused.
It is alleged that the accused woman managed to get bail even after committing such an ‘outrageous crime’ due to ‘faulty FIR’ and the weak role of the Dispur police.
Rajkanya Baruah was allegedly driving her car in a highly intoxicated situation. After attending a birthday event at Taj Vivanta in Guwahati, Baruah returned home when she hit her car into workers near the Down Town area.
“She tried to run after hitting the vehicle but ended up hitting somewhere else again and could not move afterwards,” stated Juagananda Boro, second officer-in-charge of Dispur police station.
Baruah claimed that all media houses are covering fabricated stories against her. She further warns media houses to commit suicide and states they will be accountable for it.
