Chief Minister Stalin voiced his opinion on social media site X, criticizing the opposition AIADMK...

Digital Desk: Chief Minister MK Stalin declared that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) would never be implemented in Tamil Nadu as it discriminates against certain categories of people, including Muslims and refugees from Sri Lanka who are Tamil.

While on a foreign tour aimed at luring investments to the state, Mr. Stalin cited Union Minister Shantanu Thakur's January 29 declaration that the CAA would be implemented nationwide within seven days and blasted the state's main opposition AIADMK for supporting the amendment in Parliament.

Chief Minister Stalin voiced his opinion on social media site X, criticizing the opposition AIADMK and claiming that the Citizenship Amendment Bill might not have been passed into law if it were not for that party's support. He emphasized that Muslims and Sri Lankan Tamil refugees are the targets of discrimination under the law.

Shantanu Thakur, a BJP politician and Union Minister, declared on Monday that the CAA would be rolled out throughout India in the next seven days.

"Within the next week, CAA will be implemented not only in West Bengal but also across the country," Thakur had said at a public meeting in Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

The DMK organized protests against the CAA and ran a petition drive calling for the law's repeal when it was previously the opposition in Tamil Nadu. He cited a resolution passed by the state administration in the legislative assembly when the party came to power in 2021, demanding the Center to revoke the CAA.

Mr Stalin pledged that the DMK government would not enforce the contentious law, saying that the people are witnessing the BJP government's measures that "go against communal harmony" and the AIADMK's "drama".

Speaking about AIADMK, he was evidently referring to the party's severing of ties with the BJP. The state's main opposition party, the DMK, has insisted all along that this action was just staged in an attempt to mislead the public.
