To enforce this measure, the board will deploy 200 teams across Delhi to identify and penalize offenders who are wasting water.

Digital Desk: The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has announced a penalty of Rs 2,000 for individuals found wasting water during the ongoing heatwave, considering the water scarcity situation in the capital. As part of this initiative, activities such as the overflow of water tanks, car washing, and unauthorized use of domestic water for construction or commercial purposes are prohibited.

To enforce this measure, the board will deploy 200 teams across Delhi to identify and penalize offenders who are wasting water. Additionally, the AAP government has instructed the disconnection of any illegal water connections at construction sites or commercial establishments.

These teams will commence their operations from 8 am tomorrow.

In an official letter, Delhi water minister Atishi stated: "There is an acute heat wave in Delhi and a shortage of water supply since Haryana is not releasing Delhi's share of water. Under these circumstances, the conservation of water becomes extremely important. However, it has been seen that there is serious wastage of water in many parts of Delhi. There are also illegal connections taken by construction sites and commercial establishments, from water supply meant for domestic use. There is a need to crack down on this misuse of water. "
