Digital Desk: In a tragic incident in Sivasagar early Tuesday morning, Dhanu Mondal, a local senior citizen, lost his life after being struck from behind by an e-rickshaw while he was out for his morning walk.
The incident occurred around 4:40 am in front of Hotel Shiva Palace.
Following the collision, the rickshaw driver left the severely injured man on the road amidst rain and fled the scene.
Mondal was immediately rushed to Dibrugarh for urgent medical treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Authorities are yet to trace the e- rickshaw or identify its driver.
This incident has raised serious concerns surrounding the unregulated movement of battery-operated rickshaws in Sivasagar and the lack of safety measures.
Additionally, there have been allegations against some e-rickshaw drivers in Sivasagar for demanding excessive fares and behaving aggressively with passengers arriving late at night on buses.
