The term of the 182-member Gujarat assembly expires on February 18 next year.

Digital Desk: The Election Commission will announce the schedule for the Gujarat assembly polls at 12 noon today.

To announce the schedule, the poll panel has called a press conference.

The term of the 182-member Gujarat assembly expires on February 18 next year.

Citing the 2017 convention, the poll panel did not announce the Gujarat election schedule when it released Himachal Pradesh poll dates last month.

While Himachal Pradesh elections will be held in a single phase on November 12, vote counting will take place on December 8.

By keeping the Himachal Pradesh counting date nearly a month after the election, the commission sent a clear message that Gujarat votes would also be counted on December 8.

The polls in the two states were announced on different dates in 2017, but the counting took place on the same day, December 18.

After the Himachal Pradesh poll schedule was announced, the EC decided to hold elections in Gujarat due to flooding.
