3 electoral officers were observed engaging in door-to-door voting via postal ballots, specifically targeting elderly voters

Digital Desk: In the wake of ongoing concerns regarding electoral integrity, fresh allegations of electoral misconduct have surfaced in Assam, with accusations pointing towards electoral officers allegedly favouring the BJP party through postal votes.

The incident unfolded at the Rupai tea estate in the Doom Dooma assembly constituency, where reports suggest that 3 electoral officers were observed engaging in door-to-door voting via postal ballots, specifically targeting elderly voters. Shockingly, it is alleged that these officers physically assisted voters in casting their ballots in favour of the BJP party.

It was known that three electoral officers purportedly intervened during the postal voting process of two elderly voters, Kharg Bahadur Thapa and Jahan James, both above the age of 80, at the Rupai tea estate. Allegations state that the officers manipulated the ballots, casting votes in favour of the BJP party while physically guiding the voters.

Upon the family's objection and protest against this blatant breach of electoral conduct, the affected voters were granted an opportunity to recast their votes.

Following the uproar caused by this incident, the electoral team quickly departed from the scene, leaving behind a cloud of controversy and questions regarding the integrity of the electoral process.

A few days back in Udalguri district, Aam Aadmi Party and Raijor Dal alleged the disappearance of a VVPAT machine from the office of the District Commissioner. Subsequent investigation revealed the truth behind the allegation and noted that the VVPAT machine, identified by its serial number, EVTEB 96784, was missing.
