There is a proposal for ten new wine shops in the city.

Digital Desk: To collect more revenue, the excise department plans to open liquor retail shops in Guwahati and other towns of the state.

It is also a surprise move that wine retail selling permits will be given to shopping malls in the city.

In Kamrup rural districts, 39 new wine shops proposed to give permits in various small towns like Chaygaon, Boko, Rajapara, Kamalpur, Nagarbera, Sualkuchi, Singimari, Rangia, Palasbari, Bihdiya, etc.

In Nalbari district, 17 new wine retail shops are proposed to be given permits, which include towns like Mukalmua, Bijuli Ghat, Bahjani, Paikarkuchi, etc.

If the new permits are given to 17 retail counters, then the total number of liquor shops would be 73.

The proposal given by the excise department to the state government to give new permits to open liquor shops in different places has generated mass reaction from individuals and various organizations.

AASU, DYFI of Nalbari district protested against this move and they demanded skill development programme centres to alleviate the youths of Nalbari district.
