California: The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that his company has changed its corporate name to ‘Meta’ as part of a major rebranding exercise on Thursday.

According to the multinational technology conglomerate, rebranding is a part of the company’s plan to develop a virtual world. However, the critics termed it as an attempt to shift focus from the recent controversies.

The changes will not be applicable to individual platforms - Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, which were used by billions worldwide.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg, during a virtual conference, said, “We’ve learned a lot from struggling with social issues and living under closed platforms, and now it is time to take everything that we’ve learned and help build the

“From now onwards our company will be called Meta but our mission will remain the same, about bringing people together, our apps and their brands, they’re not changing next chapter.” Zuckerberg added.

Recently, in its report, Frances Haugen, a former employee, stated that the company is aware of numerous harms its app and services caused, but it doesn’t try to rectify the issues or try to address them.

However, Zuckerberg refuted all the claims shown in the documents provided by Haugen.
