The family claimed the student was ragged and killed in the hostel...........

Digital desk: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Guwahati reported on Thursday that a first-year student had been found dead in his hostel room on the campus on Wednesday night.

The 20-year-old deceased's family claimed he was ragged and murdered and wanted a high-level investigation into the incident, even though authorities believe it to be a suicide.

The student was a B-Tech student at the institute, coming from the Samastipur district of Bihar.

"The body has been sent for a postmortem examination to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). After we receive the report, we will have a clear picture," a police officer stated, requesting to remain anonymous.

As per the institute's administrators, the body was discovered on Wednesday night. “His body was found in his hostel room on Wednesday night and we immediately informed the police. A team of police arrived and took the body for an autopsy,” according to an IIT official who asked to remain anonymous.

The family claimed the student was ragged and killed in the hostel, even though the police officer who was cited above stated that it "appears to be a case of suicide."

The authorities are currently attempting to prove that this is a suicide even though it is a case of murder. The father of the deceased stated, "He was ragged several times and he also informed the authorities but they did not pay attention." They have since filed a police complaint against the institute on the grounds of alleged negligence.

The institute released a statement saying, "It is with deep regret that IIT Guwahati shares the unfortunate news of the death of a male student on campus on 10th April 2024. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, and we are providing them with the necessary support during this difficult time. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident. Our thoughts are with the grieving family."
