Following the fourth round of negotiations with a panel of three Union ministers on Sunday night in a bid to break the impasse, Punjabi farmers in Khanauri and Shambhu had restarted their agitation early in the morning once a two-day pause.
Thousands of farmers are demanding a legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP) for crops and a forgiveness of farm debt, and they will continue to camp out at the two border points during the break in the agitation.
Farmer activist Baldev Singh Sirsa identified the deceased farmer as 21-year-old Subhkaran Singh, a resident of Bathinda district in Punjab's Baloke village.
Three patients, one of whom was deceased, were taken from Khanauri to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, medical superintendent H S Rekhi said to reporters. Rekhi stated that the other two are stable and that the deceased had a head injury.
About twelve police officers received injuries when they were attacked with lathis and stones were hurled, according to a Haryana Police officer.
