 What is the significance of Father's Day falling on the third Sunday in June?

Sonora Smart Dodd, the daughter of William Jackson Smart and Ellen Victoria Cheek Smart, died when she was sixteen years old. Dodd was only 16 years old when her mother died at the age of 47 while giving birth to her sixth child.

Sonora Smart Dodd, the mother of Father's Day, was raised by a single dad; she had five siblings.

Her father, an American Civil War veteran, raised all six of her siblings when her mother died.

Dodd was moved by her father's involvement in the lives of her children. She believed there should be a specific day to honour fathers after hearing a Mother's Day speech at church.

She requested that her father's birthday, June 5, be recognised as Father's Day by the Spokane Ministerial Alliance. The Alliance agreed to dedicate a special day to fathers, but Father's Day was chosen for the third Sunday in June.

Father's Day is traditionally commemorated by children giving their fathers presents and greeting cards and spending the day with them. 

Mothers have always been viewed as the primary caregivers for children. But men also enjoy and take pride in carrying out their fatherly responsibilities. Being a single parent can make the already difficult task of parenting even more difficult. Being a celebrity parent just increases the burden of single parenting, which is already challenging. Whether they are married, divorced, single, or part of the queer community, many men in the entertainment industry are devoted fathers.

Ricky Martin

Karan Johar

The joyful father of two and Bollywood filmmaker and producer Karan Johar has frequently professed his desire to have children on various occasions. He declared his desire to adopt or use surrogacy to have children in his autobiography, "An Unsuitable Boy." The head of Dharma Productions surrogate-born Yash and Roohi Johar in 2017.
