Locals claim that a pipeline installed as part of the government's Smart City plan is currently leaking, causing the fissures.

Digital Desk: Cracks in houses in Aligarh's Kanwariganj region have caused worry among residents, who are also concerned about ground sinking in Uttarakhand's Joshimath. Hundreds of households in the holy town of Joshimath are in risk of becoming homeless during this harsh winter.

"In the last several days, cracks have formed in some of our houses, causing us to panic. We have complained, but the municipal corporate authorities have not taken any meaningful moves and have simply given assurances. "We are scared that the houses would fall," Shashi, a local, told news agency ANI.

Locals claim that a pipeline installed as part of the government's Smart City plan is currently leaking, causing the fissures.

"It's been nearly four days. We notified the appropriate departments, but no aid has been provided so far. "We are being forced to live in fear," Afsha Mashroor, another local, said.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation's Additional Commissioner, Rakesh Kumar Yadav, took note of the situation and stated that the civic body would take all required procedures.

“We have just received information of cracks in some houses in the Kanwariganj area. The matter has not yet come to full notice. We will send our teams to the site and necessary actions will be taken,” Yadav assured.
