Digital Desk: Illegal sand mining in the Borpani River at Kachua, located in Nagaon district, has sparked serious concerns among local residents.

Concerned citizens have filed an FIR against eight individuals at the Kachua Police Station, highlighting the gravity of the issue.

Reports reveal that an alleged illegal network has been extracting sand from the river over the past few days using powerful machines in Pomila Jaroni and Ramanipathar areas, which come under the Kampur Forest Range.

The extracted sand is reportedly being transported and sold for commercial purposes, raising alarms about its environmental impact.

Residents are deeply worried about the potential damage to the river's embankments on both sides due to continuous sand extraction.

Last year's devastating floods had already caused significant damage to several sections of the embankments, many of which were repaired by local residents themselves due to alleged government inaction.

Despite repeatedly informing the Forest Department about the ongoing illegal mining, residents claim that no effective measures have been taken to address the issue.

The community fears that continued sand mining could trigger serious erosion and pose a grave threat during the rainy season.

In response to growing concerns, residents have filed an FIR against Saidur Rahman, Matiur Rahman, Zakir Hussain, Aanar Hussain, Habizuddin, Jaynal Abdin, Ekramul Hussain and Mazibur Rahman.

Locals have warned that if the Forest Department and police fail to take swift action, they will escalate the matter to the District Commissioner.
