Based on specific information, a combined squad from the Assam Rifles and the Customs Department, Champhai, conducted the operation.

Digital Desk: Under the supervision of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), the Serchipp Battalion of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles on Tuesday found 60 cases of cigarettes of illegal foreign origin worth Rs. 90 lakh in the general region of Zokhawthar, Champhai.

Based on specific information, a combined squad from the Assam Rifles and the Customs Department, Champhai, conducted the operation.

The recovered cigarettes cost around Rs 90 lakh in foreign origin (Ninety Lakh only). The day the package was seized, it was handed over to the Champhai Customs office for further legal action.

For the state of Mizoram, the ongoing smuggling of cigarettes of illegal foreign origin is a serious source of concern. With due justification, the Assam Rifles, sometimes known as the "Sentinels of the Northeast," have successfully carried out operations against Mizoram's smuggling activities.

It should be noted that two days ago, in the Champhai district of Mizoram, the Serchhip Battalion of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles, acting under the direction of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), confiscated 70 cases of cigarettes with an unlawful foreign origin.

Champhai, an Assam Rifles and Customs Department squad, carried out the operation after receiving a tip.

Officials were informed that the market value of the imported cigarettes seized is Rs 1.05 crore.
