Digital Desk: Four individuals have been arrested in Sarbhog, Barpeta, following the seizure of a fake gold boat weighing 1.58 kg.


Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch), Samiran Baishya, confirmed the arrests, which involved both the alleged fraudsters and two buyers.


The two primary suspects, identified as Injamul Haque and Akinur Islam from Golapara village under Abhayapuri Police Station in Bongaigaon district, allegedly lured two buyers from Odisha via telephone by claiming to have unearthed a genuine gold boat.


The buyers, identified as Chanura Amar Seth from Kandhamal and Khattu Sona from Rayagada, had travelled to the region to finalise the purchase.


The group was apprehended by Sarbhog Police, with the assistance of local residents, while negotiating the deal on a roadside in Fehurakhowa village.


Investigations into the fraudulent scheme are currently ongoing.
