Digital Desk: A wave of grief has swept across the region following a tragic road accident in Tamulpur involving the Bhaskarjyoti Bihu Husori team from Haribhanga, Nalbari.
The incident claimed the life of a young dancer and left several other performers in critical condition.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Nishamoni Haloi, the daughter of Ramen Haloi from Nijjhar village in Goreswar.
A talented and culturally active young woman, Nishamoni was well-known for her Bihu dance performances and her skill as a reciter of Nagara Naam. She tragically died on the spot.
The incident occurred at Noakhat on the Tamulpur-Nagrijuli road as the team was traveling from Nalbari to Bangalipara for a scheduled Bihu performance.
The group had completed two successful performances earlier that night in Pathsala and Kendukuchi in Nalbari.
Their vehicle, a Traveller carrying around 30 performers (AS-25-DC-5893), collided head-on with a trailer (PB 03 AP 6681).
The collision resulted in serious injuries to 11 other performers. Six of the victims were rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.
Currently, four other members, identified as Sribani Bora, Angita Das, Kabyashree Chourat, and Jagat Rai are undergoing treatment at Swasti Hospital in Rangia.
Medical officers report that Sribani Bora remains in critical condition. The incident has cast a deep shadow of grief across the entire state.
