During the busiest period for iPhone manufacture, upwards of 200,000 people are employed by the massive complex. But when Foxconn paid recent employees $1,400 each as severance to oust unhappy workers, thousands of people fled.

Digital Desk: The world's largest iPhone factory, which is at the centre of Beijing's efforts to maintain its economy while battling Covid infections, is experiencing unrest, and Apple Inc.'s manufacturing partner is attempting yet another special payout to Chinese workers to quell it and get production back on track.

In addition to their usual pay through December and January, Foxconn Technology Group is providing workers who left the Zhengzhou facility between October 1 and November 10 with an additional 30 yuan ($4.20) per hour as well as a 500 yuan returnee bonus. According to a notification published on the social media platform WeChat, they can receive a bonus of 3,000 yuan after staying for 30 days and an additional 6,000 yuan in January if they labour 23 days or more.

After tense protests against factory lockdowns implemented in response to an increase in Covid infections broke out, Foxconn and Apple announced several additional bonuses and incentives. The businesses announced over the weekend that they will compensate full-time employees who started at the beginning of November or earlier up to 13,000 yuan per month in December and January.

Due to production issues in China, Apple is running out of iPhone 14 Pros during the crucial holiday selling season. The production of the Pro devices, which are the most sought-after models, is expected to be reduced by about 6 million units, according to the firms. Given that the phones start at around $1,000, at least $6 billion in potential sales could be lost.

The situation inside the complex known as iPhone City is still unstable, and the amount of production that has been lost may vary depending on the circumstances. How swiftly Foxconn can return workers to the assembly lines following the demonstrations will determine a lot of things.
