Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with visiting Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto to strengthen the bilateral ties between India and Indonesia. Both leaders focused on boosting defence manufacturing, maritime security, and economic cooperation.


Prabowo Subianto is on a 3-day visit to India for the first time as a president. He attended the 76th Republic Day celebration as the Chief Guest following an invitation by PM Modi. He is accompanied by several Ministers and senior officials of the Indonesian government. Several business delegates from Indonesia also travel with the president.


According to a press release, the two leaders agreed to work together to strengthen maritime security as well as defence cooperation. They also welcomed an MoU on Maritime Safety and Security Cooperation. They condemned terrorism and vowed to work together to combat such threats to both nations.


Both PM Modi and President Subianto acknowledged the MoUs signed between Nalanda and Indonesian Universities under the ASEAN-India Network of Universities(AINU).


Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a statement said, "To strengthen our cooperation in the Defence sector, we have decided to work together in the areas of Defence Manufacturing and Supply Chain."


On Saturday, President Subianto was received by President Droupadi Murmu at the special banquet at Rashtrapati Bhawan, where he said, "I am very proud to be here in India. I came here for few days but learned a lot from Prime Minister Modi's leadership and commitments."


He further said, "I would like to wish the people of India prosperity, peace, and greatness in the coming years. I would like to see Indonesia and India continuing to be close partners and friends."
