  • A dedicated 'green corridor' facilitated by police ensured the timely transfer of vital organs from a 24-year-old brain-dead woman in Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for life-saving transplants, following her family's compassionate decision

In a significant display of inter-agency coordination and a family's profound generosity, critical organs from a 24-year-old brain-dead woman in Gandhinagar were successfully transported to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital on Friday, June 19, via a specially created 'green corridor'. This rapid transit system, established by police authorities, was crucial in overcoming the narrow time window essential for successful organ transplantation.

The donor, identified as Kajal Rathod, had been receiving treatment at GMERS General Hospital in Gandhinagar before doctors declared her brain dead on Thursday. Despite their immense grief, her family made the courageous decision to provide written consent for organ donation, offering a new lease on life to several patients awaiting transplants.

Hospital officials confirmed that Ms. Rathod's kidneys, pancreas, and liver were deemed suitable for donation. Recognizing the urgency, the GMERS hospital administration promptly contacted the Gandhinagar district police, requesting the establishment of a green corridor. This expedited passage was vital to ensure the organs reached Ahmedabad Civil Hospital without delay.

Following instructions from senior officers, police stations along the designated route in both Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad cleared the path, allowing the ambulance carrying the precious cargo to travel unimpeded. This seamless coordination underscores the critical role such corridors play in maximizing the chances of successful organ transplants and highlights the enduring impact of organ donation on countless lives.
