The cruise will pass through the Sunderbans in the Bay of Bengal delta, as well as the Kaziranga National Park...

Digital Desk: Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) on Monday refuted reports of the Ganga Vilas Cruise getting stuck on the third day of its journey in Bihar's Chhapra.

In a tweet, IWAI chairman Sanjay Bandopadhyaya clarified, "Ganga Villas Cruise reached Patna as per schedule. No truth in the news that the vessel is stuck in Chhapra, Bihar. The vessel will continue its onward journey as per schedule."

Earlier, ANI claimed that the flagship cruise, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, got stuck in Chhapra due to shallow water in the Ganga near the Dorigang area.

Set sail from Varanasi, the MV Ganga Vilas will travel 3,200 kilometers in 51 days, passing through 27 river systems and several states before ending its journey at Dibrugarh. The voyage includes visits to 50 tourist attractions, including World Heritage sites, national parks, river ghats, and major cities such as Patna, Bihar, Sahibganj, Jharkhand, Kolkata, West Bengal, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Guwahati in Assam.

It will make pit stops to see the famous Ganga Aarti in Varanasi, the Buddhist site of Sarnath, and even Majuli, the largest river island in Assam. The visitors will also visit the Bihar School of Yoga and Vikramshila University. The cruise will pass through the Sunderbans in the Bay of Bengal delta, as well as the Kaziranga National Park.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways is in charge of coordinating this ship tourism project. While speaking about the safety of the visitors passing through the international borders of India and Bangladesh, Union Minister for Tourism, G Kishan Reddy, said, "All the facilities and security protocols have been taken care of for the tourists. The Government of India is taking several steps to promote cruise tourism in the country."
