Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court issued notice to the Commissioner & Secretary and the various officials of the Fisheries Department on the allegation of corruption in the department, a local media reported.


According to the local media, a notice has been given following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) 55/2021 filed by the Amguri Naba Nirman Samiti.


The Court asked for a reply from the respondents within a few weeks.


The PIL stated, “Something fishy is going on in the Fishery Department, Government of Assam in as much as many funds allotted by the government for implementing various schemes including the rearing of fish in own pond were inappropriately used.”


The PIL alleged that many people, who do not have ponds, have benefited under the scheme.


Reportedly, the next hearing on this case has been slated for October 26 of this year.
