  • Akash Deep, Commissioner and Secretary of the Assam Transport Department, has been summoned by the Gauhati High Court for alleged contempt of court related to an APSC recruitment scam directive
  • He is ordered to appear in person on August 31

The Gauhati High Court has initiated contempt proceedings against a senior Assam government IAS officer, Akash Deep, who serves as the Commissioner and Secretary of the Transport Department. He has been summoned to appear in person on August 31 at 10:30 am to explain alleged non-compliance with a court order concerning an individual implicated in the high-profile APSC recruitment scam.

The court's directive stems from a contempt petition filed by Suranjita Hazarika, an officer whose probation period had reportedly concluded. The High Court had previously issued an order mandating her reinstatement and instructing the relevant department to commence departmental proceedings against her within 90 days of the order being issued.

However, reports suggest that despite this explicit court directive, Hazarika was neither reinstated to her position nor was any formal dismissal order issued by the Transport Department. This alleged failure to implement the court's instructions prompted Hazarika to approach the High Court once again, seeking action against the responsible authorities for the non-adherence.

Akash Deep has been specifically directed to present himself before the court on the specified date to provide a comprehensive explanation for the alleged non-compliance. The court will then determine why appropriate action should not be taken against him for the failure to adhere to its earlier mandate, underscoring the judiciary's firm stance on ensuring the implementation of its orders, particularly in matters of significant public interest like the APSC recruitment scandal.
