The crackdown underscores GMC's commitment to fiscal discipline and regulatory compliance...

Digital Desk: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is ramping up efforts to boost property tax collection and enforce trade license regulations within the city. In a recent development, GMC has issued warrants against more than 50 properties with outstanding arrears exceeding Rs. 2 crores, targeting individuals and entities neglecting their tax obligations.

The crackdown underscores GMC's commitment to fiscal discipline and regulatory compliance. Failure to settle arrears may result in the attachment of properties, in accordance with sections 189(1) and 189(2) of the Guwahati Municipal Act 1971, as outlined in a press release by the Commissioner of Guwahati Municipal Corporation.

This initiative follows GMC's proactive stance in enforcing trade license regulations. On February 16, GMC conducted operations targeting businesses operating without the requisite licenses. Two business establishments and an individual faced fines for non-compliance.

AD Service Centre and A R Steel Trading, situated on N C Road and Lokhra Road respectively, incurred fines for operating without trade licenses. Madan Lal Pareek was penalized for conducting two businesses on Lokhra Road with only one trade license, violating municipal regulations.

GMC's rigorous enforcement actions underscore the municipality's commitment to ensuring compliance with tax and licensing requirements, fostering a fair and transparent business environment in Guwahati.
