Guwahati will see the deployment of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas)-powered buses this New Year...

Digital Desk: Buses powered by CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) will operate in Guwahati for the first time in the upcoming year, which is wonderful news for locals who commute by bus. The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) will undertake the CNG bus project as part of the Guwahati Smart City initiative.

According to ASTC sources, the state government made a policy decision to run 100 CNG buses in Guwahati city, and a tender for the supply of CNG vehicles was issued as a result. Tata Motors has delivered 68 CNG buses to the state following a competitive bidding process. In accordance with sources, the remaining 32 vehicles will be delivered soon.

The new CNG buses are being placed in a parking lot on the outskirts of Changsari. The buses will be deployed in batches, all the buses will not be deployed at the same time.

According to sources, two filling stations have been established to supply CNG to the new buses, one near the ISBT in Betkuchi and the other in Ulubari.

The primary motivations for accumulating CNG buses are to reduce pollution and to save money on purchasing considerably more expensive fuel.
