Employees of Asam Sahitya Sabha protested repeatedly earlier this month amid controversy over the failure to pay dues.

The Sahitya Sabha President allegedly made a promise to pay off all outstanding debts when sitting down with the workers, but protesters said he broke his word.

Former Secretaries Jadav Chandra Sharma and Kuladhar Saikia had earlier pledged to pay off all debts by the end of the previous year. Employees, however, claimed that they broke their word throughout the protests.
