Guwahati: Indian government announced a reward of Rs. 5,000 for citizens who will carry road accident victims to the hospital. The decision was taken by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced that it had formed a scheme for 'Good Samaritans". Under this scheme, people who save the lives of injured individuals in a road accident will recieve a cash reward.
Individuals usually bypass helping or reaching out to a victim of a road accident who is in need. People avoid such cases because they are scared of police inquiries and different legal procedures.

The government stated that if one manages to carry the victim to the hospital within the 'golden hour,' he will be rewarded. The 'golden hour' is considered "the first one hour period, after a tragic injury during which there is a high chance of halting death by giving immediate medical care.
The objective behind this initiative is to create awareness among people to promote help in need. This scheme will save the lives of the victims of a road accident.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) stated in a report to all state and union territory administrators and transport secretaries that the program will be in force from October 15, 2021, to March 31, 2026.
The ministry issued report read, "scheme for grant of the award to a Good Samaritan who has saved the life of a deadly motor vehicle collision victim by offering immediate help and hastening to hospital/injury Care Centre within the Golden Hour of the accident to give preventive medicine."
As per rules, if more than one Good Samaritan rescues the lives of numerous sufferers, the prize will be Rs 5,000 per victim rescued, up to a culmination of Rs 5,000 per Good Samaritan.
