Digital Desk: Allegations of illegal fee collection and severe academic failure have surfaced at Bagori High School in Karbi Anglong, located near the southern border of Kaziranga National Park.

Parents have accused the school's headmaster, Amburam Bora of charging unauthorised admission fees.

While guardians claim they are being forced to pay Rs 500 annually, while the headmaster has admitted to collecting Rs 200, stating the charge as a means to procure textbooks for students from distant places.

These allegations have sparked outrage among the local community, as government schools are mandated to provide free admissions.

The controversy coincides with a disastrous performance in the recently declared High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination results.

Out of 83 students who appeared for the exams from Bagori High School, only one student managed to pass.

This follows a similarly poor performance the previous year, highlighting a persistent decline in the institution's standards.

They allege that regular classes are not conducted and the institution is currently operating with only two teachers. The headmaster has also been accused of negligence and failing to implement necessary improvements.

In response to the crisis, the local residents have urged the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council to intervene immediately.

They are calling for the appointment of additional teaching staff and improve the academic infrastructure to secure the future of the students.
