Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote to West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee on Thursday, asking for a thorough probe into the death of a state student at IIT Kharagpur.

The untimely death of the student, Faizan Ahmed, has caused tremendous anguish throughout Assam, according to Mr. Sarma, who has requested a comprehensive investigation into the situation.

Faizan Ahmed, of Tinsukia, Assam, was discovered dead in his dorm room on October 14. He was in his third year of mechanical engineering at IIT Kharagpur.

Mr. Sarma expressed great sadness over the incident in his condolences.

His parents have filed a complaint with Kharagpur police, asking for an investigation into his death.

Several suicides have occurred on the campuses of India's foremost science and technology institute in recent months. Two IIT students were discovered deceased on two different campuses last month.
