Digital Desk: The Guwahati Railway Police seized large quantities of gold weighing over one kg on Sunday, officials informed.

According to sources, the gold consignment was seized at the Guwahati Railway Station when GRP authorities carried out an operation.

According to officials, the intercepted shipment contained up to 13 gold biscuits, each of which weighed about 1.5 kg. The shipment was subsequently seized by the authorities.

According to the officials, the gold consignment was seized from the Agartala Deodhar Express.

The gold was later discovered in the possession of Amarnath Ashok Sawant. According to officials, the individual was accused of smuggling gold out of Assam and to other parts of the country. He had been running his operations for a while, however, and was finally caught in the drive.

The GRP police arrested him and took him in for interrogation in connection with the incident, the officials added.
