A guard wall on the Geetanagar side apparently fell after a particularly severe downpour...

Digital Desk: The Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden's guard wall fell on Thursday afternoon following incessant rain in Guwahati city, causing worries for both the animals inside the zoo and the nearby residents.

A guard wall on the Geetanagar side apparently fell after a particularly severe downpour. Residents claimed that because of the guard wall's existing poor condition, this was bound to happen. They said that despite repeated complaints, no action was taken.

Additionally, the guard wall has become even weaker as a result of the continuous and heavy downpours over the past few days. On Thursday afternoon, the wall collapsed, causing a breach in the zoo’s perimeter. Residents fear that if it is not fixed immediately, animals will venture out of the zoo.

The incident, which was brought on by the city's struggle with flooding as a result of the bad weather, is an aspect of a larger issue. Due to this, flooding has occurred in a number of low-lying areas.

A house on Zoo-Narengi Road was hit by a landslide earlier today that was caused by continuous rainfall, destroying it partially. Fortunately, the family residing in the affected house had a narrow escape from this disaster-hit area. The house in the Bhaskar Nagar area took the brunt of the landslide because it was perilously close to a hill's edge.
