Digital Desk: A man pulled out a gun and started shooting at a gathering of residents of an apartment building in Rome on Sunday, killing three women, among them a friend of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

On Sunday night, Meloni uploaded an image to Instagram showing her standing next to one of the victims, Nicoletta Golisano. Alongside the picture, Meloni commented, "For me, she will always be gorgeous and joyful like this."
"It is not right to die like this."

After the shooting at a gathering held in a bar in the city's Fidene neighbourhood, police detained a 57-year-old man who had been overpowered by other locals.

According to a witness who spoke to Rai News, the suspect was a local man who had a history of conflicts with the residents' association.

Another witness told the Italian news agency Ansa that the shooter entered the room, shut the door, shouted "I'll murder you all," and then began firing.

At least one of the other four victims of the incident had serious injuries.

According to Meloni, the authorities have closed down and are conducting an inquiry into the shooting range where the suspect obtained the weapon used in the incident.
