Guwahati's Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport (LGBIA) marked a significant step in strengthening regional air travel on August 5, 2026, with the commencement of its inaugural flight service to Deoghar. This new route is poised to bolster connectivity between Assam and Jharkhand, facilitating smoother travel for various purposes.
The launch was celebrated with a ceremonial lamp-lighting and cake-cutting event held at the airport. Key stakeholders, including the Chief Airport Officer, airline representatives, and other airport officials, were present to commemorate the occasion. In a symbolic gesture of growth and new beginnings, the first passenger on the Guwahati–Deoghar flight was presented with a sapling.
Officials anticipate that the new air link will bring substantial benefits, improving convenience for passengers and fostering growth in tourism, pilgrimage, trade, and cultural exchange. Deoghar, a renowned pilgrimage destination, is home to the revered Baba Baidyanath Dham, and the direct flight service is expected to provide faster and more accessible travel options for devotees and other visitors.
With the addition of this crucial route, Guwahati Airport continues to solidify its strategic position as a vital gateway to Northeast India, expanding its network and contributing to the region's overall development and accessibility.
