Digital Desk: The Assam Government on Wednesday (June 14) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Northern Frontier Railway for the transfer of Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) land in Paltanbazar, Guwahati, to the Railway Authority for the construction of a second entry to the Guwahati Railway Station.

The MoU was inked in the presence of Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who informed about the railway's yearly growth rate of 15-20 percent and an annual footfall of 1 crore passengers.

CM Sarma wrote on Twitter, "To ensure hassle-free rail and river travel, Govt of Assam, under the leadership of HCM Dr@himantabiswa has signed Memorandum of Agreements with @RailNf & @NRL_MoPNG to develop a superlative Railway terminal, modernize bus services & provide seamless fuel to IWT ferries."

The project, which includes the construction of a state-of-the-art bus terminal and a world-class railway station in Guwahati, is estimated to cost Rs 700 crore.
