Digital Desk: Following relentless rainfall after 19th April , large parts of Guwahati have been severely affected by artificial flooding, prompting urgent advisories from the district administration.

Massive waterlogging has disrupted normal life across several localities, including Hatigaon, Anil Nagar, Rukminigaon, Nabin Nagar, Chandmari, Ganeshguri, Six Mile, Boragaon, Maligaon Chariali, and many other areas. Key roads such as GS Road and Rajgarh Road have been partially submerged, leaving vehicles stranded overnight and commuters facing extreme difficulties. In some areas, water levels remained high well into Monday morning.

In response to the worsening situation, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration issued a directive announcing the closure of all government and private educational institutions within the Guwahati Municipal Corporation area on 20th April . The decision was taken in view of the flash flood conditions triggered by continuous heavy rainfall.

Authorities have also reported incidents of landslides in the surrounding hilly regions, raising further concerns about public safety and infrastructure resilience.

Residents have been urged to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged and landslide-prone areas, and follow official advisories. For emergency assistance, the administration has released helpline numbers, including a WhatsApp number (9365429314) and a toll-free number (1077), to support those in need.

The district administration continues to monitor the situation closely as efforts are underway to manage the crisis and assist affected residents.
