  • The calf was owned by Satradhikar of the renowned Disam Deva Satra Babul Dohotia
  • Babul Dohotia has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the calf's death

Digital Desk: In a devastating incident that has sparked widespread outrage, a 15-month-old elephant calf named Lakshimoni died after being administered an expired vaccine in the Kumchang Reserved Forest.

The calf, a symbol of pride for the Moran community, was owned by Babul Dohotia, the Satradhikar of the renowned Disam Deva Satra at Baghjan in Tinsukia district.

The vaccine was reportedly administered under the supervision of a veterinarian from Uttar Pradesh associated with the NGO "Wildlife SOS", which operates under the Forest Department.

The incident took place within the Kakopathar range of the Doomdooma Forest Division.

Babul Dohotia has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the calf's death.

The All Moran Students' Union (Kakopathar Regional Committee) strongly condemned the occurrence, noting that the untimely death of an elephant, closely tied to the identity and pride of the Moran community, is entirely unacceptable.

The union has demanded a fair inquiry, punishment for those responsible, and compensation for the owner.

Meanwhile, forest officials from the Saikhowa range stated that the calf was in a healthy condition when the vaccine was administered, further intensifying the call for clarity on the cause of death.
