Digital Desk: Murder accused Ajul Haque was shot in an encounter by the Police when trying to escape from custody on Friday night. Ajul Haque was arrested on the same day in a failed attempt to murder a woman named Sonali Das by slitting her throat at the Golden Path, Bhetapara of Guwahati.
Hatigaon police opened fire while Haque attempted to flee from police custody. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital GMCH).
After the crime, the accused was trying to flee from the scene but locals nabbed him and handed him over to the police. The injured woman was immediately admitted to the GMCH by Hatigaon Police.
Police reports revealed that Ajul Haque followed Sonali on Friday while she was walking on the road. He slowly approached her, started slashing her throat, and left her critically injured. Following the incident, the locals of Bhetapata caught him when he was trying to escape from the place.
Commenting on the reason behind the chilling incident, police said that both Ajul and Sonali were in a relationship despite both married to different partners. Ajul was a friend of Sonali's husband. However, she was denying her relationship with Ajul for the last two years which resulted in the attack.
According to her family, Sonali shifted to Guwahati from Dhubri to avoid Ajul Haque's harassment. Due to his harassment, she filed a complaint against him a year before. He often requested her to meet him but she did not approve it. This has made him revengeful and he decided to attack her on January 10.
According to police reports, Hoque was brought to GMCH at 2.40 AM on January 11. However, his condition is stable, and breathing normally.
