Digital Desk: According to reports that surfaced on Thursday, Guwahati Police have made progress in the horrifying case of the kidnapping and murder of a 9th standard student in the city's Bonda neighbourhood by arresting the prime accused.


One Abhishek Baruah was reportedly detained by the police about the situation, according to the reports. In the Hatigaon neighbourhood of Guwahati, the accused allegedly operated a small shop on the street.


A class 10 student from a city school was identified as the deceased. According to reports, the accused abducted him on Tuesday and took him to Bonda on the outskirts of Guwahati.


According to officials, the deceased's half-naked body was discovered deep in the forest areas. They suspect he was killed by stabbing, and the body was dumped there.


The victim, a local, is said to have known the accused, who owned a shop in the Hatigaon neighbourhood, for a very long time.


Abhishek demanded a ransom of Rs 7 lakhs for the victim's release after kidnapping him, according to officials. However, the victim's body was found in Bonda late on Wednesday night.


The accused Abhishek Baruah was detained by the police last night after the body was found. The Guwahati Police Crime Branch also arrived in Hatigaon late last night, where the team prepared a crime scene.
