Digital Desk: Jogen Mohan, Assam's Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, has announced a Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia payment to the family members of a woman who died in a water pipe burst incident in Guwahati's Kharguli region.

Jogen Mohan paid a visit to those who were affected by the unfortunate incident on Thursday and are currently finding refuge in relief camps.

Speaking about the tragedy, the minister claimed that the Disaster Management Department will cover all expenses for the stranded persons who are currently lodged in relief camps.

"The Disaster Management Department of Assam will provide all necessary assistance to the affected people," stated Jogen Mohan. We have agreed to give Rs 2 lakh to the deceased's relatives and Rs 10,000 to each of the injured. Each impacted person will receive Rs 5,000 for clothing and utensils. In addition, we will provide free food and accommodation to the 22 families seeking refuge at the relief camp."

The minister further mentioned that the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has been asked to investigate the problem and guarantee that the destroyed dwellings are rebuilt as soon as possible.

Following the water supply pipeline burst disaster, the situation in Kharguli remains dangerous. Families stuck in Kharguli's Joypur when a water pipeline burst yesterday were given shelter at Joypur Primary School.

Meanwhile, Ashok Singhal, the Assam cabinet minister for housing and urban affairs, visited the scene of the tragedy last night and assessed the situation.

Mrigen Sarania, the Mayor of Guwahati, also paid a visit to the scene where the water pipeline ruptured in Kharguli. Furthermore, Kamrup (metropolitan) DC Pallav Gopal Jha paid a visit to the scene of the event in Kharguli yesterday night.
