The actress took on the stage name of Rekha when she made her film acting debut. She has a sister, five half-sisters, and a half-brother.

There were rumours that the actress had been granted a main part opposite Big B in the Anees Bazmee-directed Welcome Back. Rekha turned down the offer because of scheduling conflicts with her comeback film Super Nani, whereas Amitabh Bachchan is said to have signed on the dotted line. Naseeruddin Shah and Dimple Kapadia eventually appeared in the movie.
